The Emergency Department Information Exchange (EDIE) is an internet-delivered Care Coordination Service with an Emergency Department specific management platform. The EDIE system functions as a utilization tool—serving as a tool to help manage recidivism and high-utilization patients—and also as collaborative case management software.
When a high-utilization or special needs patient registers at an EDIE-participating Emergency Department (ED), EDIE receives that information and proactively sends the ED an alert. This alert arrives within minutes with crucial care guideline and other patient information to help ED Physicians appropriately treat the patient.
Once notified, the ED can use EDIE to access other additional information about the patient from other EDIE-participating facilities and care providers, as well as add any additional information applicable to the patient’s care. This collaborative communication platform allows EDs, Case Managers and Primary Care Providers to establish consistent care guidelines for patients, ensuring the best patient care at every level.
With ED overcrowding and strained hospital resources at a premium, EDs cannot afford to ignore dramatic increases in utilization and misuse.
Using EDIE as a utilization and case management tool, EDIE-participating facilities have seen a high-utilization reduction rate between 30% and 60%. Facilities have also seen, on average, patients having a sustained 60% reduction in ED visits within the first year of being managed within the EDIE system.
